We integrate data from a variety of fields, such as population biology, comparative and functional genomics, developmental genetics, chromatin biology, epigenetics, and aging. The Stillman Laboratory is a leader in crustacean functional genomics Genome-scale approaches have revolutionaized mechanistic studies of organismal physiology, including responses to environmental change (Stillman & Armstrong 2015). QB3 Genomics is a partnership between the Vincent J. Coates Genomics Sequencing Lab ( GSL – B206 Stanley Hall), the Functional Genomics Laboratory (FGL – 255 LSA) for Library Preparation, and the Computational Genomics Resources Facility (CGRL) for server access and bioinformatics resources. Welcome To The Hockemeyer Lab The focus of our work is to establish reliable models of human diseases using genetically engineered human and stem cell and mouse models and functional genomics screening approaches.

The Integrative Genomics Building (IGB) is an 80,880 gsf, four-story research and office building constructed in the former Bevatron area — a fully developed site in the geographic interior of the Berkeley Lab. A Berkeley Lab-led team is digging into the bizarre bacteria-produced nanomachines — called tailocins — that may fast-track medicine and microbiome science. They explored the mechanisms governing how tailocins attack specific strains, and looked at genetic similarities and differences between tailocin producers and their target strains. Berkeley Lab is set to receive nearly $4.6 million over four years as part of an ongoing, federally funded project to create a comprehensive catalog for fundamental genomics research. This latest The Stillman Lab has also played a major role in building community around application of functional genomics tools in crustaceans including through sympoisa at meetings of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (Stillman et al 2008, Stillman et al 2011 , Mykles et al 2016a,b, Burnett et al 2020a,b). For example, we study Bd-resistant and Bd-susceptible frogs in nature, in the lab, and using functional genomics to determine the mechanisms by which Bd kills frogs and to understand why some species are more resistant to its deadly effects. Recent genome-wide transcriptome studies have observed a great number of unexpected transcripts internal or antisense to known genes in bacteria and archaea, but the function of these unexpected transcripts is unclear.
