The peritoneum functions to support and protect abdominopelvic organs. The peritoneum is a complex membrane which forms folds, covers various abdominal organs and contains neurovascular structures within its folds. The peritoneal folds connect the various organs to the abdominal wall or to each other. The peritoneal folds include the omenta (greater and lesser omentum), the mesentery, and the ligaments.

Anatomy tutorial explaining the basics of the peritoneal cavity using the Zygote Body Browser (http://www.zygotebody.com).Join me on Instagram: https://www.i 2015-03-20 · Introduction : Greek peritonaion = stretch around The peritoneum is a continuous serous membrane which lines the abdominal cavity and covers the abdominal organs. It acts to support the viscera, and provides a pathway for blood vessels and lymph.. The peritoneum or peritoneal cavity is a large complex serous membrane that forms a closed sac within the abdominal cavity. It is a potential space between the parietal peritoneum lining the abdominal wall and the visceral peritoneum enveloping the abdominal organs.

Flexural anatomy is frequently described as a difficult area. It is simplified when each flexure is considered as being centered on a mesenteric contiguity. The ileocaecal flexure arises at the point where the ileum is continuous with the caecum around the ileocaecal mesenteric flexure. To understand the peritoneal response in disease, normal embryonic development, anatomy in healthy conditions and physiology of the peritoneum have to be understood.

The abdominal viscera can be divided anatomically by their relationship to the Peritoneal Reflections. The peritoneum The outer layer, called the parietal peritoneum, is attached to the abdominal wall. The inner layer, the visceral peritoneum, is wrapped around the internal organs that are located inside the The potential space between these two layers is the peritoneal cavity. It is filled with a small amount The peritoneum consists of two layers: Parietal peritoneum – an outer layer which adheres to the anterior and posterior abdominal walls. Visceral peritoneum – an inner layer which lines the abdominal organs. It's made when parietal peritoneum reflects from the abdominal wall to the viscera.
The peritoneum is thin membrane that lines the abdominal and pelvic cavities, and covers most abdominal viscera. It is composed of layer of mesothelium supported by a thin layer of connective tissue. Although ultimately one continuous sheet, two types of peritoneum are referenced:
Anatomy and Physiology. The peritoneum is a single layer of squamous mesothelial cells resting on a loose connective tissue containing blood vessels, lymphatics, and nerves. Anatomically, the peritoneum is divided into a parietal and visceral peritoneum. The parietal peritoneum lines the diaphragm, abdominal walls, and pelvic cavity.

One layer lines the cavity and the other layer lines the organs. The peritoneum helps support the organs in the abdominal cavity and also allows nerves, blood vessels, and lymph vessels to pass through to the organs.
It is composed of many folds that pass between or around the various organs. Two folds are of primary importance: the omentum, which hangs in front of the stomach and intestine; and the mesentery, which
The outer layer, called the parietal peritoneum, is attached to the abdominal wall.
